In a professional world in constant evolution, the International Academy of Periodontology is facing several challenges. The Mission Statement of the Academy appears now on our home page (http://www.perioiap.org/). One of the objectives of the Academy is to disseminate periodontology worldwide, and this implies the promotion of periodontology and implantology in developing countries. In the past, previous IAP presidents, officers and members have given their time to lecture and organize meetings and seminars, both in developing and developed countries. We can cite Brazil, Egypt, France, Morocco, New Zealand, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland, and Turkey as successful venues.
We have a close collaboration with the FDI World Dental Federation, and our previous presidents, Prof. Angela Pack and Prof. Vince Iacono, along with our Executive Director Prof. Tom Van Dyke, have worked for recognition of the IAP during the Annual World Dental Congress in New Dehli, Dubaļ, and next September in Stockholm, Sweden.
Improving oral and periodontal health around the world means resolving economic considerations to implement low cost treatments, not only in periodontology but also in implantology.
