Thomas Van
Dyke, DDS, MS, Ph.D, has received the prestigious 2002 Norton M.
Ross Award for Excellence in Clinical Research by the American
Dental Association.
For more than twenty years, Dr. Van Dyke has
studied the structural and functional relationship of the
inflammatory process by pinpointing the complex interactions between
phagocytic cells and their environment, particularly microorganisms
in periodontal and other infectious diseases. His work and research
has significantly contributed to understanding the pathogenesis of
localized juvenile periodontitis.
The annual Ross award
recognizes a researcher who has made significant contributions in
clinical investigations that have advanced the diagnosis, treatment
and/or prevention of oral disease. The Association sponsors the
award through the ADA Health Foundation with the support of Pfizer
Consumer Healthcare. The award honors the memory of Dr. Norton
M. Ross, a dentist and pharmacologist who contributed significantly
to the fields of oral medicine and dental clinical
research.
