Day two began with the Session IV,
entitled“Control,” chaired by Prof. Vincent Iacono (USA) and
featured talks by Prof Ray Williams (USA) on “The Medical Model
of Periodontal Disease Treatment,” Dr Toshihide Noguchi (Japan)
on “Non-Surgical Management of Advanced Periodontal Disease
using Laser and Drug Delivery Systems,” Dr A Kumarswamy (India)
on “Control of Periodontal Disease in India: A Major Challenge,”
and Prof Jairam Reddy (South Africa) on “Control of Periodontal
Disease and HIV in Africa.”
Following lunch, the meeting
attendees embarked on a Train Excursion and Traditional South
African Dinner at Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The dinner
was sponsored by Sunstar. The attendees rode on a vintage train
from Cape Town Station to the Spier Estate where they were
greeted by a “Kaapse Klopse” group, a “New Orleans” style band.
Following wine tasting and viewing the estate, the attendees
enjoyed an excellent buffet dinner of traditional South African
foods. Entertainment was provided by the world renowned
Tygerberg Children’s Choir. The Choir comprises 70 to 75
multicultural members (boys and girls) between the ages of 10
and 14 years and has performed before heads of state and
royalty, including Pope John Paul 2, Queen Elizabeth II, King
Gustave of Sweden, President Bill Clinton and the former
President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. It also performed at
the inauguration of President Thabo Mbeki, the present President
of South Africa and Princess Alexandra of Denmark. |
